Prolight Diagnostics today announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance relating to a patent application covering key aspects of the Psyros® single-molecule-counting technology. This is expected to become the first granted U.S. patent relating to the Psyros platform.
The patent application (US application No. 18/267,726) covers methods to extend the lifetime of reactive oxygen species, enabling the generation of more clearly defined spots on the sensor surface. This enhances signal quality while reducing the complexity of the optical readout system, supporting the development of cost-effective applications on the Psyros platform.
A Notice of Allowance indicates that the USPTO intends to grant the patent following completion of the remaining administrative steps.
“We are delighted to receive this Notice of Allowance from the USPTO, which significantly strengthens the protection of our proprietary single-molecule-counting platform in the United States,” said Steve Ross, CTO at Prolight Diagnostics.
“Strong patent protection in the United States is strategically important for Prolight. Securing what is expected to become our first U.S. patent represents an important milestone and supports our ongoing discussions with potential industrial and commercial partners,” said Ulf Bladin, CEO of Prolight Diagnostics.
Prolight currently have six patent families relating to the Psyros single-molecule-counting technology. The first five patent families are progressing through national and regional phases in multiple territories worldwide. The sixth patent family entered the international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) phase in November 2025. Three patents have already been granted in Europe and two in Japan.
